Meningococcal vaccination (MenC) overview in European countries

N.B. Unless otherwise stated in the footnotes below, each coloured box represents one dose of MenC vaccine.

The MenC vaccine is recommended simultaneously with MMR vaccination at 12-13 months of age.
(2)
MenC is given universally by the private sector while the public sector targets selected groups with e.g. sickle cell disease, immune deficiency etc.
(3)
One dose in the 2nd year of life; should not be administered simultaneously with MMR + monovalent Varicella vaccine or MMRV vaccine.
(4)
If vaccination starts at the age of >12 months, only 1 dose is recommended.
(5)
Vaccination with conjugated Meningococcal vaccine was introduced in the childhood vaccination schedule in October 2002 together with a vaccination campaign to include children 6 months-19 years.
(6)
A single dose of Men C vaccine is given for those 12 months to 22 years who have not received the routine 3 doses in infancy.
(7)
Meningococcal C conjugate vaccine is recommended at national level for selected groups only.
(8)
The third MenC dose is given around 12 months of age with Hib as a combined vaccine.
