Pneumococcal vaccination (PCV7) overview in European countries

N.B. Unless otherwise stated in the footnotes below, each coloured box represents one dose of pneumococcal vaccine.

Given against payment; however, free of charge for children belonging to high risk groups.

Additionally, a catch-up programme for children up to the age of 59 months is implemented.

Recommended for children 0-23 months old. If vaccination with PCV7 starts between 12 months and 23 months, two doses of the vaccine are recommended with an interval of 6-8 weeks. If vaccination starts after 24 months (optional) only one dose is recommended.

As from April 2009, PCV7 will be given to children at 2 months and 4 months, with a booster dose at 15 months of age (2+1 regimen) and free of charge.

Recommended at national level for selected groups only in a 2+1 regimen.
(6)
Recommended complementary vaccination for optimal individual protection.
