Pertussis vaccination overview in European countries

N.B. Unless otherwise stated in the footnotes below, each coloured box represents one dose of pertussis vaccine.

The pertussis vaccine administered by the Public Health Services is the whole cell vaccine. In the Private Sector, both the whole-cell and the acellular vaccine are administered.

The primary course of 3 doses is recommended at 13 weeks, 17 weeks-1 year and 21 weeks-1 year of age. Booster doses are recommended at 11 months 1 week-18 months of age and at 5 years of age.
(3) Given in a combined form as DTaP-IPV-Hib-HepB (hexavalent vaccine) in the private sector only. A fourth dose whith the same hexavalent vaccine is given at 12-18 month in the private sector only.

A 5th dose recommended at 30-35 months.

Children born before 2002 are boosted at 10 y, children born in 2002 and later at ages 5-6 and 14-16 years.
