The Romanian Childhood Vaccination Schedule as on 6 May 2008

1 Only rubella is given for girls.
2 Recommended every 10 years thereafter.

Additional comments
1. Previously unvaccinated health-care workers considered at risk of acquiring heptatis B are offered a course of HepB
2. Subsequent doses of dT are offered at 24 years of age and every 10 years thereafter.

Historic changes
Measles, mumps, rubella:
1979: Measles vaccine was introduced into national children vaccination schedule for children 9-11 months of age.
1994: Second measles vaccine dose was introduced into national children vaccination schedule for children 6-7 years of age (first school grade).
2002: 1st April first measles vaccine dose was moved from 9-11 month to 12-15 months to prepare for MMR introduction.
2003: Rubella vaccination was introduced into national children vaccination schedule for girls aged 14-15 years.
2004: MMR 1 was introduced into national children vaccination schedule for children at 12-15 month of age.
2005: October, MMR 2 was introduced into national children vaccination schedule for children at 6-7 years of age (first school grade).

Planned changes
As from October 2008 the following changes will be implemented in the Romanian national childhood vaccination schedule:
1. DTaP will replace DTwP. IPV will replace OPV for the doses given at 2, 4 and 6 months of age. Both DTaP and IPV will be given as a combined quadrivalent vaccine at 2, 4 and 6 months.
2. DTaP will be given at 13-15 months of age instead of DTwP currently given at 12 months of age. OPV and the first MMR dose will given at the same time.
3. DTaP at 4 years of age will replace DTwP currently offered at 30-35 months of age.
4. DT currently offered at 6-7 years will be withheld.
5. The second MMR dose will continue being recommended at 7 years of age
